1. Go to: http://www.acdlabs.com/resources/freeware/chemsketch/
2. Click "download."
3. They'll ask you to create an account. Go ahead - they have emailed me maybe once in the past 2 years.
4. Once you're in "Freeware" - click the first box in the table "ACD/ChemSketch Freeware - Windows Platform". I think it's about 40MB for all the parts.
5. Open the EXE file to install. It should open automatically once completed.
Tips
- Once you're in chem sketch, try clicking on carbon. Drag your curson across and click again - you'll get a carbon chain.
- Click any carbon bond to make it double, triple, and back to single again as you click. This goes for oxygens as well.
- If you want to hide carbons (line drawings), you can go to "Tools" and "Structure Properties" and unclick the boxes at the top.
- Modify your structure by switching to the "select/move" blue ball icon at the top left.
- Before copying, go to "Tools" and "Clean Structure" to make it the proper shape. You can highlight it and do that a few more times to change the shape around.
Please ask for help in class using ChemSketch if you are stuck!
